Second Year Chapter- 2.10
For the hate crime project, the problems that I was having didnt compare to the shock I got when I found Alex the next day in studios just casually sitting at his computer looking at screw drivers.
Asking him to show his progress I was shocked angered and flabbergasted to see that he had gone off on his own and changed the style that all the group had agreed on and had worked so hard to replicate. He ignored what I said when I told everyone to use the character assets I had put on the drive for everyone to use. He instead drew his own characters (that had lines which was one of the main things we didn’t want in our style )that didnt at all go with the ones that everyone else had animated.
It seems all he had done was taken his animatic scene and had added to it with colour. So he’s changed the style and has extended the animatic scene that everyone else was happy with before he decided to add to it.
I asked why he had changed all this and he said because he wasn’t comfortable in using after effects which I replied with-why didn’t he ask for help, that he had weeks to come ask me or someone else. His reply was a shrug.
Then I asked why he didn’t use my assets and he said that it didn’t matter if he used them or not.... it so does. Which I told him and he just said the same thing basically.
Then I warned him that his attitude and work effort would have not been tolirated in a proper studio. He basically blow me off saying that it doesn’t matter if he was we weren’t in one.
Which told me further that he is not taking his work seriously, causing other people to drop grades because he is not putting in the effort and the right attitude that results in a good colaberarion and results.
I told him that this was not good enought and his reply was ‘I can take care of myself’.
Obviously he couldn’t, I thought as I walked away.
I was stuck, there was nothing I could do.
There wasn’t enough time to do it myself and everyone else was busy. I had no other choice but to leave it.
While showing Amy what Alex had done to his scene others came other shocked to see what he had done. And told me I needed to report this to our teachers and after everything Alex had done I knew they were right.
So I wrote to our teachers.
Pre production was going well and was happy with the amount of work that I had done for it I stared to write up my reports and organise my show reals.
This is the updated version of what Alex did, sadly we weren't able to use this shot as it was to late, ddeadlines where too close and the editing and sound still had to be applied. And Alex deleted the older regions of this so this is the continuation of the shot that we had to use.
But don't worry you'll be able to see previous shot on the final film.
This is the rough animatic that we presented in our feedback classes just after the holidays to show our progress. I've put it up to show you how much Alex has changed the shot that we all agreed we liked before he changed it (without telling us).
If you compare his shot in the animatic compared to the one further up you will see how he has added to it.
(In this animatic his shot ends when the victim is crouching down against the wall and the lights turn back on after being fixed by the woman who slides down the lamp post.)
This is the final animation and in this you will be able to see the total contrast of how Alex didn't use the assets I told everyone to use and changed the animation compared to the animatic. Along with how Laura used tvpaint for her shot instead of After effects.
I'm sure if you look closely you will see the difference between Amy, Mads and my shots compared to theirs.
