Second year Chapter- 1.1
Back to uni for the second year after a long relaxing holiday. And straight away we are thrown into the deep end with a project that we have to do within a week. With in no time at all we are thrown into groups and we had to settle down together to create a basic idea for a Christmas advert for a company. Ideas involving cutting down Christmas trees where the main thoughts at first but we kept up at the same point. The trees where being cut down and that was no good with the demands that our animatic had to show that the company was environmentally friendly.
Eventually we settled on a basic story that evolved a young boy who sits up waiting for Santa with some milk and cookies to only be met by a robin who falls down the chimney. Unsure what to do the boy takes the robin and decided to feed him the cookies and milk he left for Santa. Then back to full health the robin goes over to the window and taps on the window causing the boy to open the window and let the robin fly away.
As the week progress and we started doing concept art the story changed. Soon the script we created said the boy opened the window without any promoting from the bird and once the bird had flown away you would then come to see him land on Santa hand who is standing on top of the boys house. Then it carry's on to show Santa climbing down the boys chimney before ending.
When it was ready to show I was pleased to say that I was happy with our efforts. With a few late nights of drawing backgrounds and then drawing a few scenes the animatic was a joy to watch and with a very nice cooperative group I new we had all worked hard together on this project.
We even worked with films students for this project and they did gather sound and write a scripted for the first idea we suggested but I think in the end the animators in the group did most of the work.
